Xbox One Could Facilitate Data Collection

The recently launched Xbox One came out with a lot of promise for marketers. While addressing the crowd at the Association of National Advertisers and Masters of Marketing Conference on Oct. 2013, key marketing personnel from the Microsoft gave an indication of their intention to make the biometric data that is collected from the device available to the market.

Most of the consumers don’t even think about it, but the Xbox motion sensor devices in our homes are quite capable of collecting our day-to-day behavioral data. This kind of information is very valuable for marketers as they are always looking for ways to understand their customers better. However, the question I am most concerned about is, will this data gathering always happen with customer consent and will the company be truthful to their customers in disclosing what is involved? I think there are a lot of ethical questions to be answered in this respect.
